Merry Christmas!

I thought I’d take some time out of my celebrations today to wish you all a Merry Christmas…for those of you who celebrate this day, of course. And for those of you who don’t? Well, I hope you were able to take advantage of these days off and spend time with loved ones.

I love celebrating Christmas. And not for the usual reasons (gift buying/giving, travelling, Santa visit) but because we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity! After all, that is what Christmas is really about.
But secularists have hijacked this solemnity, and instead of “Merry Christmas!” you are now greeted with “Happy Holidays!”. Instead of the twelve days of Christmas starting on Christmas Eve, people now start them on Dec. 12. Instead of the Jesus’ birth being the purpose for the party, it’s now all about Santa, or scrap Saint Nick all together and just celebrate gifting.
Is this the tradition we want our future generations to carry? That Christmas is just one giant gift swap? How sad, especially since Canada is a Christian country, with the head being Queen Elizabeth who is also the head of the Anglican Church. Why follow a holiday blindly? Why would anyone celebrate a Christian holiday if they were pagan? Why offend yourself in such a manner? Be true to yourself! Celebrate Christmas with true purpose and respect if you are Christian. And if you’re not, we’ll, pick another feast day to hijack, but don’t distort Christmas.
Now I’m not suggesting that non-Christians should go to work on Christmas Day, or that people should be forced to believe something they don’t want to. However, let’s recognize that the only reason we drink egg nogg and wear ugly sweaters to parties at this time of year is because Jesus was born on Christmas day.
So one more time Merry Christmas, and Happy Birthday Jesus!
